While many businesses are beginning to return to work, the threat of COVID-19 is still very real. Employees are eager to get back to their jobs, but that does not mean they need to put themselves and their loved ones at risk.
Below are a few tips to keep construction workers safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic:
- Stay home if you are sick
- Anyone on the work site showing symptoms should go home immediately and follow the necessary health precautions
- If possible, meetings should be held remotely either by a phone call or video chat.
- All unnecessary contact and proximity between individuals should be avoided for the safety of workers and their families. Attempt to keep at least 6 feet apart.
- Employers should stagger breaks and shifts to limit the number of individuals on the job site to a maximum of 10
- In addition to employees, limit the number of visitors on the site
- Limit the use of shared food and equipment. Each worker should have their own supplies to avoid touching things after others.
- Sanitize equipment and work areas daily
- Acquire personal protection equipment, including masks, gloves, and eye protection, both for general construction safety and prevention of viral exposure
- Wash hands before and after entering the job site. If this isn’t possible, have hand sanitizer or other disinfectants available
Be aware of yourself and others. Help us flatten the curve and keep yourself and those around you safe. Read the situation and be aware of the symptoms, but also know that in many cases people are asymptomatic. If you think you have been exposed, self quarantine for 1-2 weeks and if possible, get tested.
