Houston, TX is known as one of the United State’s major, bustling cities and is a hub for businesses and opportunities. Housing so many districts within downtown, there is never a dull moment and there is a chance to experience everything your heart desires. The overall expansion of the area has resulted in many attractions but has made navigation of the city harder. The Houston METRORail is a popular public transportation system helping Houstonians navigate around.
The Houston METRORail strives to provide safe, clean, reliable, accessible, and friendly public transportation services to the city of Houston. The success of the METRORail downtown expanded the operations to surrounding areas such as Bellaire, Hilshire Village, Katy, Spring Valley, and more. The METRORail is a subsidiary of the Houston METRO family, offering three rail lines and totaling 22 miles of travel converted by 76 light-rail vehicles. The METRORail carries over 55,000 passengers daily, resulting in one of the most traveled lines in the nation.
As the city advances and adapts over time, so do the services it provides. Jerdon participated in a city project to update and upgrade the beautification of one of the rail’s stops, Main Street Square. Main Street Square is built between two light rail stations in the 900 and 1100 blocks of Main Street. Housed near the medical and theater district, the area offers a variety of museums, theaters, and other events for many to enjoy. The square features business spaces for many companies as well as plenty of dining and shopping opportunities. The Shops at Houston Center are also present at the sight of the METRORail drop-off and pick-up location.
The project highlights the METRORail and the fountain water jets of the square with trains running a 250-foot, 8-inch deep reflecting pool. There are 13 jump jets with the streams of water arcing 40 feet into the air, and 39 smaller jets animate the perimeter of the pool. The landscaping of the area translates into a green, peaceful garden full of flowers and plants, trees, and plenty of shade. The walkways in front of the rail presented bold designs as it offers canopies and public seating while waiting for the next rail to arrive.
