Best Construction Practices for the Busy Summer Season

Summer is known to be the best season for construction due to the influx of seasonal workers and warm weather. Here are a few of the best practices to implement during the busy summer construction season:

Scale Privileges based on Seasonal Workload

As summer carries on and responsibilities increase, privileges should increase as well. Boost company morale and reward hard work with incentives such as allowing a worker to come in two hours later in the morning after working two hours extra the day before.

Experimenting with incentives can be tricky, but offering a slightly relaxed schedule during the hot, busy months can build ownership of work and an element of trust between employer and employee.

Plan Vacations in Advance

Try and get as much notice as possible from employees on vacation days for the summer. Last minute days might be possible in other seasons, but in the midst of a busy summer season, last minute notice could leave you understaffed on a project.

Communicate this with employees in the beginning of the year, giving them plenty of time to build the days into your work schedule and plan ahead.

Always Be Networking

For a lot of companies, it is difficult to continue networking during the summer months when focus is usually elsewhere. Instead of giving up on marketing efforts during a busy time, try and build in time for trade shows and networking events.

These events tend to have higher attendance in the summer months, building more connections with potential customers as well as friends in your field of work. Take advantage of the summer months and build new business connections for yourself as well as the company.
