The city of San Antonio considers the Riverwalk one of its most popular tourist attractions. Jerdon Enterprises is proud to have contributed to the construction process. The riverwalk, now complete, welcomes many visitors each year.
History
The history of the San Antonio Riverwalk spans back to 1536, when Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca visited the interior of Texas and wrote of the river. Over five centuries, the river has seen war and disaster. However, as time progressed, San Antonians turned the area into a hotspot for dining, tourism and culture.
Dining
The riverwalk offers something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or fine dining, there are endless options to choose from. Along the riverwalk, you’ll find nationally recognized dining establishments, such as Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Joe’s Crab Shack and the Hard Rock Cafe. Another favorite among guests is Dick’s Last Resort.
Hotels
The Riverwalk remains a favorite tourist attraction because of the close proximity of so many businesses. When your feet get tired, just walk back over to the hotel and take a moment to relax. Almost 20 hotels reside along the river, with the ability to host thousands of tourists per day. Visit the San Antonio Riverwalk website for a full list.
River Boats
Go Rio Cruises offer another method of transportation along the river. Visitors can purchase a pass and wait at a shuttle location to catch a ride to their destination. These boats run approximately every 60 minutes. Tourists also have the option to participate in a guided boat tour. The narrated cruise lasts approximately 35 minutes with departures every 15 minutes.
Holiday Lights on the Riverwalk
Now is the perfect time to visit the riverwalk. Every holiday season, the San Antonio Riverwalk transforms into a winter wonderland. Now through January 13, over 10,000 Christmas lights dangle from the Cypress trees that line the river. This is a free was to experience the Christmas Spirit in the heart of San Antonio.
